Who We Are

A small school with a loud opinion

We believe most English education gets it backwards: years of rules first, speaking maybe later. We flipped the order in 2017 and have never looked back.

The Foodgear Learning Hub team workspace in Subang Jaya

How it started

Foodgear Learning Hub began in 2017 with two rented desks in SS15, Subang Jaya, one borrowed webcam and a stubborn idea: that a student in Ipoh or Miri deserved the same native-speaker classroom as anyone in central KL — without the traffic.

The first class had four students. One of them still studies with us (hello, Auntie Rose, now confidently at C1). Today more than 1,800 Malaysians have come through our virtual doors, and our teachers dial in from five countries while our small operations team keeps everything humming from the same neighbourhood in Subang Jaya.

What We Stand On

Four rules we refuse to break

Speaking first

You will talk in your very first lesson. Grammar is taught in service of things you want to say — never the other way round.

Small or nothing

Six students per group, maximum, forever. The moment a class gets big enough to hide in, it stops being a class.

Honest levels

We will never enrol you in a course that is wrong for you, even if the right one starts three months later. Trust outlasts a quick sale.

Kindness works

Nobody learns while feeling stupid. Our teachers correct without crushing — and our students stay because of it.

Why "Foodgear"?

Students ask constantly. The honest answer: our founders met over a very long mamak session in SS15, argued about how language schools should work, and sketched the whole plan on the back of a nasi lemak receipt. Food powered the gears from day one — the name stuck as a reminder that the best English practice happens around a table, mid-conversation, not behind a desk.

Where we are going

The plan for the next few years is deliberately unglamorous: more of the same, done better. More conversation levels, more camp weeks, a growing corporate programme — and the same six-seat classrooms we started with. We would rather be the school people recommend quietly than the biggest logo on a billboard.
